Set below the towering cliffs of Torrey Pines, it takes a bit of effort to reach - usually by walking down steep trails or along the shoreline at low tide - but that sense of seclusion is part of its appeal. San Diego has a strong gay community presence centered in Hillcrest, with its bars, clubs, and Pride celebrations, but the coastline adds another dimension.

Mission, Coronado, and La Jolla beaches are some of the local favorites, but there's only one truly gay beach in San Diego – and it’s possibly the most famous gay beach on the West coast. The atmosphere ranges from social and chatty to laid-back and private, with people sunbathing, swimming, or strolling the long shoreline.

While other beaches like Coronado and Ocean Beach are inclusive and welcoming, they aren’t distinctly gay in the same way.
